Lexia Year 7 & 8

Dear Parent/Guardian,

We’re delighted to inform you that, in order to support your child’s progress, Harborne Academy has purchased Lexia Strategies, a reading computer programme that provides practice and instruction in foundational reading skills. All students will be given the opportunity to use Lexia during lessons, but there is also an expectation that students spend at least twenty minutes per week using the programme at home.

Getting started is easy:

  1. For computers, go to the school website, choose ‘VLE’ and log into your child’s Firefly account. Finally, select the Lexia link on the homepage to log in.

  2. Please let the school know if you have an unreliable internet connection or do not have a web browser that can run Strategies and we will give you instructions for installing the Strategies software on your computer instead of using the website.

  3. For iPad/iPad mini, download the Lexia Strategies app:

  4. In the App Store, search for “Lexia Strategies.”

  5. Download the Lexia Strategies app.

  6. For Android tablets, download the Lexia Strategies app:

  7. In the Google Play Store, search for “Lexia Strategies.”

  8. Download the Lexia Strategies app.

  9. Note that the app is not available for Kindle.

  10. For all versions, the first time you open Lexia Strategies, you must set up:

  11. Click the Home button and provide your teacher’s email address (below).

Teacher Email (for web or app setup):

    Student Username ___________________________________________________

    Student Password: englishplus

After you have set up Lexia Strategies, allow your child to login:

  • The username and password (above) is the same login they use at school.

  • It is important that you allow your child to work independently and provide encouragement – but don’t give away the answers.

  • If you have any questions, or require any further support, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s English Plus teacher, or go to and click Support.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Farrell

Head of English Plus
