New Academic Year

Dear Parent /Guardian

We are quickly approaching the end of a hugely successful academic year at Harborne Academy.  We are immensely proud of our staff, parents and students for achieving out Good grade in our latest Ofsted inspection. We hope you have a relaxing summer holiday.  To ensure the Academy continues to run smoothly we would like to inform you of some changes to the school day and to remind you of our high expectations.

Students will be welcomed back on Wednesday 6th September as follow:

  • Year 7 and Year 11 – 8:35am

  • Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10 – 11:20am

From September the Academy will be operating a new school day details of which are listed below:

Reminder of rules and sanctions

Our rules on mobile phones are well established and adhered to within the Academy. All mobile phones should be switched off and out of sight at all times. If students are seen with a mobile phone during the day it will be confiscated and returned at 3:20pm. If this is repeated then you will be expected to attend the Academy to collect your child’s mobile at your convenience.

All students have been issued with a water bottle this term and we expect them to carry this daily so they can access our water fountains for refreshment, we do not allow any sports/energy drinks within the Academy. If they are seen they will be confiscated and disposed of. Additionally we request that if students must bring combs onto the Academy premises that they are plastic and not metal, any metal combs will be confiscated for parental collection.

Our recent Ofsted shows that students support our sanction policy and understand the fairness within the system.  As part of the Culture for Learning Policy your child may be put into detention.  If the detention is 45 minutes or more you will be notified via our text system, so in order for us to have good communication please ensure we have your up to date mobile phone details.

The School Council are currently working with the student body to develop and shape the rewards within the Academy. These will be taking a higher profile next academic year. To be kept up to date with current information please look out for our reward tweets.

Standards of uniform for the Academy are high and we expect to see these continuing in September. Please remember students should wear the following:

  • Academy blazer

  • Academy tie

  • White shirt

  • Black trousers or knee length skirt (Denim, skin tight or legging style trousers are not appropriate)

  • Academy jumper (optional)

  • Black leather shoes. (**Please note that trainers are not acceptable footwear).

All staff at the Academy wish you a safe and happy holiday and look forward to welcoming you back in September.  Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.

Yours Faithfully,

Mrs J Elbaz
