Learning Support

The Academy prides itself on providing for children of all academic abilities with an inclusive ethos which supports all students, including those with special educational needs.

The needs of students vary, some need full-time support programmes others just need that little extra input for a short period of time. The school caters for all support needs including academic ones (for the more or less able), physical, medical, sensory or emotional.

The Learning Support Team of staff recognises and values the diversity of our students and offers a range of help working with students in lessons, in small groups and on an individual basis. We work with many students, sometimes throughout their whole school life, sometimes for a fixed period of time.

The range of provision includes:

  • Interventions in English, Maths and Science
  • Support for students with English as an Additional Language (EAL)
  • Study support
  • Mentoring
  • Behaviour support
  • Transition support groups
  • Conflict resolution
  • Support for students with medical needs that have caused short term absence from mainstream lessons

The support team works in partnership with student learning managers, subject teachers, attendance team, parents and outside agencies to help students reach their full potential.
